Top 5 reasons why Mass Effect is a game that you should get
75With all the games that are next gen coming out for this year it is important that you you what the hell you you're buying. A lot of gamers seem to notice that a lot of games that come out nowadays seem to provide visuals and sound rather than game play and story, any person with half a brain knows that in order to have a good game the latter two elements must be a factor. Game designers seem to forget that and all they provide is beautiful images and sharp surround sound; it takes about fifteen minutes to realize what they bought is a shoddy story with hammy acting and poor game mechanics *cough, too human-COUGH! It's a load of crap and frankly as a gamer from the past to the present I keep thinking when are good games that are good actually going to come out?
This is where Mass Effect comes in, a game like any other I have played, a game that pits a young marine against an ancient evil with the help of a supporting cast of alien allies(yes it takes place in space) with a good storyline, addictive game play and solid voice acting with tons of depth and missions; it's amazing that I am still playing, but you ask yourself "why should I bother with a game like this" well I'm glad you asked because I have top 5 reasons why you should play Mass Effect.
I'll probably do another top 5 reasons for Mass Effect 2 pretty soon.
Number 5-Good versus Evil
Ahh, the good ol' classic storytelling of good versus evil, now I know this may seem like a weak point but listen just for a second, imagine a game with elements of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and (insert movie with good vs. evil plot) combined that came together and formed a love child that could only be interpreted as GENIOUS. Ok, ok, it's been told many times before, but it starts by telling a story of a man by the name of Shepard, a marine Commander who becomes a SPECTRE, a member of special elite group used to bring down terrorism and while also becoming the capo of a prototype ship called the SSR Normandy, while befriending alien species that join him in his quest to stop a rogue Spectre alien, whew, that's it in a nutshell. And if that's not academy award winning material, I don't know what is.
Number 4-Interstellar travel or landing on different planets, literally.
Yes you heard right, by trying to find the rogue spectre known as Saren, you must travel to different systems and clusters to find out clues as to where he may be hiding or not hiding. The main storyline directly involves you constantly going to to different planets within these systems via planet drop in a vehicle known as the Mako a tank-like car attached with a machine gun and discharge bombs. There are worlds that vary from beautiful and breathable to straight up ugly and poisonous, to harsh and cold to volcanic and turbulent, but don't plan on landing on Uranus anytime soon, ha! Ugh, err, ok that was bad.
#3-Aliens for hire!
Being on a ship it's only natural that you are going to need a crew, a crew of fierce looking, bloodthirsty aliens, (well only one of them is that way, everyone else is down to earth, or at least down to their respective planets) but they know you're in for the long haul so whether you want them to or not they plead to join your crew and become members of your squad, that is they join you on your missions when you investigate the planets, and help you when fighting off the bad guys. As the game progresses you can talk to them between missions and find out more about their past and their experiences with other species, continuously talking to them can even trigger extra side missions that gets you experience points and upgrades. Nothing says I'm bad ass than having a big intimidating alien with a huge gun come at ya!
#2-Robot baddies!
If you thought aliens were the only bad guys in this game, then you thought wrong! It's a race of synthetics that are the main enemies you will run into that will...you guessed it, destroy the human race and the other alien races as well, unless they work for them. These robot drones of destruction known as the Geth are out to help bring about the end of all organics and bring order to the universe...sound familiar?
Still these deranged robots are what make the game challenging and fun, and nothing says fun like saying "You've been terminated!"
#1-HOT ALIEN CHICKS!! Whoo!
What can be more great about this game than having a relationship with alien women, ok you can only have a relationship with only one female, but it's good that you do, it's bad juju to be a player, and karma will come back to haunt you, trust me I know :(. Anyways if you converse with one of your female allies every time you complete a mission you get closer to them as you speak to them, and yes you can have a relationship with a human female, Ashley, but I think it's more exciting to date an alien, don't you, of course it is! On the flip side you can customize Shepard at the beginning of the game to be female and have either a relationship with human male marine Kaiden or the alien female Liara, whatever your preference.
Well there you have it, I realize it's a bit late to writing any kind of review on this game but I wanted to get this out because it's a really well written game and the game play is easy to get the hang of, and with the sequel coming out this fall with being able to transfer your already clear saved game onto the next game, it's safe to say that this game is one of kind and I couldn't recommend it more.
